Jarvis began managing Save-U Family Foods at the age of 19 in the summer of 1993 when his mother Esther’s health deteriorated to a point where she was no longer able to work. He had successfully completed two years towards his degree in Business Administration at the University of Regina but when given the opportunity to come home to run the store. In 1995 his mother passed away, leaving Jarvis the responsibility of the family business.
In 1996 Jarvis and Sandi were married, and in 1999 they purchased his sister Anita’s share of the business and became full owners.
Business has always been an enjoyable challenge for Jarvis. He strives to satisfy the needs of customers though great customer service, product selection, quality, competitive prices and a comfortable shopping environment. One of his goals in business is to value each person that works, shops, supplies or enters Save-U IGA by treating them fairly and with integrity.
Jarvis and Sandi have three children: Riley, Brooklyn and Jaxon. Riley & Brooklyn already work at the store and Jaxon often helps out Friday nights with his dad.
Jarvis and Sandi both believe that being involved in community is important. They love the town where they have chosen to live, work and raise their family. Jarvis is a long-standing chamber member and has served on or chaired the promotions committee for many years. He also completed two terms on the Town of Nipawin’s Economic Development Committee. He is currently the treasurer for Nipawin’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Sandi’s community involvements often are more related to their children’s activities. Currently she is the treasurer for the Nipawin Air Cadets and chairperson of the Wagner Elementary School SCC.
Jarvis and Sandi are also very involved in Nipawin Alliance Church. They are the driving force behind Bethlehem Live!, “a dramatic Christmas journey for the entire family” which has run 5 year now. Jarvis chaired the NAC Building Committee when the new facility was built in 2003-4 and they have both held various leadership positions in their church.
Many of the staff at Save-U IGA has been there for decades! Gerrie McAuley, assistant store manager has been at Save-U IGA for over 33 years and does a fantastic job! Gerrie is currently serving on the chamber board of directors.
Save-U IGA has been part of the Nipawin downtown since 1976 when Abe and Esther Dyck purchased the Servu Family Food Store, owned by Frank and Inez Radloff. Today Jarvis and Sandi continue to carry on the family legacy.
